Let's Be Honest...I'm Keeping It Real

Am I the only one who feels like fashion/beauty/lifestyle bloggers (1) have it all (unlimited money, clothes, shoes, time, etc.) OR (2) are full of shit?

My vote is on the latter. Kris and I do quite well for ourselves, but the Manolos still aren't free flowing if you know what I mean. So let's take a minute and keep it real, shall we?

1. I don't have unlimited money. Home girl is on a budget and it doesn't include YSL bags and Jimmy Choos.

2. My hair nails, clothes, etc. aren't perfect. Sometimes all of the time, I even repeat outfits!

3. My marriage isn't perfect, either. Gasp! I'm married to a human. My husband is also married to a human. We make mistakes and it isn't all peonies and cupcakes.

4. I don't live in a super cool city. I live in a super normal city with super normal things to do.

5. I can't seem to find the time to dress myself up and take blog photos. I have a job, a house, and 2 dogs. Plus, I like to watch TV and drink wine. I don't know how other people do it.

6. I don't spend a bajillion dollars on hair and beauty products. Please refer back to #1.

7. I'm a little insecure about my looks and body. I'm definitely not a size 2.

8. My home isn't filled with goodies from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware, but I love it anyway.

9. I can't cook or bake like Martha Stewart. I can't do anything like Martha Stewart, except successfully avoid jail.

10. I don't subscribe to any of those money boxes. No birchbox, no glossy box, no stitch fix, no nothing. The only monthly subscription I have is for birth control, oh wait...

  1. This post made me smile. I so relate! Most of my clothes come from Target, Gap, and Marshalls. My city certainly isn't glamorous. And honestly the couch and an earlier bed time win out over blog time lately!

  2. This is exactly why I don't even try. Sometimes I think I have an adorable outfit on hat would make a great post and then I snap back to reality like don't start that path, just don’t.

  3. I completely agree! I'm not perfect and I'm sure not going to pretend my life is.

  4. OMG! ALL of the above, and stating to loathe peonies! I am also like Lauren, I shop at Target, Gap, Old Navy, and my mom's hand me downs lol. and I wish I has subscribed to birth control 6 years ago, now I have 3 bad little kids, lol! Oh and you forgot about not having money for a professional photographer or the top of the line camera with a tripod. Usually I get my six year old to take pics of me, call me cheap, lol.

  5. Jennifer, I feel ya. If I have to pay even $8.00 for a tube of lipstick I am out. I actually don't understand how other bloggers do it. Keepin' it real is the way to go!

  6. Ha! Yes to all, which is why I use polyvore so much! We only need to see me wear so many old navy teeshirts :)
