Girl Talk

I need to have a little girl talk. I mean, I need to ask a serious question only you ladies will be able to answer.

How long does it take you to get ready in the mornings?

It takes me between 50 and 60 minutes, but I feel like most women take less time than that. Those 50-60 minutes include putting on makeup, curling my hair, and getting dressed. I shower and blow dry my hair at night, but if I had to do that in the morning you could easily tack on another 30 minutes. If my clothes need to be ironed or I struggle to find an acceptable outfit it takes me another 10 minutes.

Am I normal? I have friends that can shower, do hair and makeup, and get dressed in under an hour. Are they superheroes or something? But, it takes my mom over 2 hours to get herself ready for anything, so maybe I'm just genetically designed to be slow?

My husband thinks the amount of time I spend getting ready is ridiculous, but he appreciates the result so he keeps pretty quiet about it. He's a smart man.

  1. If I haven't decided on what I'll be wearing, it can take me more than an hour to get dressed. I usually couldn't decide until the last minute.

  2. That's my problem too...deciding what to wear!I usually take about an hour, but if I don't pick my outfit out the night before, it can take much longer!

  3. I don't think it is a ridiculous amount of time. I wake up at 5:05am every morning, and am out the door by 7:15am. I take a shower and do my makeup. Then I go out in the kitchen and pack mine and my husbands lunches, iron his clothes, make iced coffees for both of us, then I let the dogs outside and feed them, blow dry my hair, straighten my hair, eat breakfast, get dressed, bring the dogs back in and leave. So that is about 2 hours, minus 15-20 minutes for getting my husband's stuff ready.

  4. Isn't it so funny how everyone takes a different amount of time? Start to finish, my hair takes about 45 minutes, but like you I usually do the wash and dry part (for me about half the total time) the night before. Makeup is about 10 minutes. Add another 15 if I'm doing all my routine stuff, like teeth brushing and face washing. I never curl my hair with curlers or a curling iron on a work day - that only happens on the weekend because it takes me so dang long to cool the curls!!!

  5. Ideally I have a hour to get ready before work in the morning. But I have an addiction to the snooze button--- so that often turns in to 30-40 minutes or less (including shower time). I'm lucky in that my hair dries straight and looks okay with minimal effort-- so most of my time goes into the makeup routine. But I'm committing to actually doing something with my hair this year. So far it's been taking me about an hour... so I'd say you're pretty normal.

  6. You are totally normal! When I'm getting ready for an event or a party, it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour!

  7. By the time I get up at 6:30 and dilly dally, makeup, curl hair, stand in front of the closet pondering, trying on 9 different options, pick jewelry, a scarf, a bag, Its somehow 8:15/8:30. I then fly down to make coffee to go and grab a snack. I usually pack my lunch at night so there is one good thing, but the makeup, clothing takes me forever. I think we are just tired in the morning, or atleast I am and I tend to move like a slug.

  8. I don't think that seems like a long time. I am probably pretty similar. It all depends on my hair. Is it doing what I want? Did I need to wash, dry then curl it? Make up is pretty straightforward - hair is the question mark!

  9. I think it depends on where I am going. If I am going out and I am doing full makeup, it will take me a lot longer than if I am just putting on foundation and powder. It also depends on what I'm doing to my hair- flat ironing/curling. It I am doing the whole shebang, it will easily take me an hour. If i'm just making myself presentable for the public, 30 minutes.
